| 2 | 572 | 492.6 |
| 3 | 572 | 492.5 |
| Avg. | Avg. 574.0 | Avg. 494.0 |
Final Score - 2317.1 @ 461 CI
Background
Shaver once again brought a big block Chevrolet, rumored to have some of the same major components from his previous year's entry. One thing that caught Ron off guard was the length of the exhaust system in the large UNOH test cells. In fact, the big Chevy was down by a huge amount compare to where Shaver had previously tested the engine.
Team # 7 - R.M. Competition - Dyno 2
Randy Malik/Mike Malik/Adney Brown
| |
|---|
| Pull # | Torque | Horsepower |
| 1 | 402.3 | 350.9 |
| 2 | 398 | 347.6 |
| 3 | 397 | 346.9 |
| Avg. | Avg. 399.1 | 348.5 |
Final Score - 2258.5 @ 331 CI
Background
Randy Malik came to the show with a nice 327 Chevy, build mostly with swap-meet and used race parts in Malik's stash. The engine showed a strong performance, but was having trouble loading down low with Randy's antique three-barrel carb. The lean mixture down-low took a bite out of the score. Still Randy's Chevy walked away looking more than respectable.
Team # 6 - Automotive Machine & Performance - Dyno 1
Mike Phillips/Dave Smith/Steve Schlater/David Wink
| |
|---|
| Pull # | Torque | Horsepower |
| 1 | 483.8 | 421.7 |
| 2 | 478.2 | 417.5 |
| 3 | 477.9 | 417.4 |
| Avg. | Avg. 480 | Avg. 418.9 |
Final Score - 2224.8 @ 404
Background
Automotive Machine & Performance is a company known for Buick power and fantastic presentation and professionalism. This year's engine is based on the popular Buick 400. The large Buick showed impressive power, and functioned without complaint thoughout the competition. Though exhibiting the broad power curve Buicks are famous for, it fell a little short in overall averages to make the qualifying field.
Team # 5 - Traco Engineering Co., Inc.
Larry Salisbury/Ed Iskenderian/Clark Hinkle
| |
|---|
| Pull # | Torque | Horsepower |
| 1 | 412.7 | 362.9 |
| 2 | 404.7 | 356.9 |
| 3 | 401.7 | 354.6 |
| Avg. | Avg. 406.4 | Avg. 358.1 |
Final Score - 2184.3 @ 350 CI
Background
Traco brought one of the engines they are famous for, a small block Chevy, in the displacement of 350 cubic inches in this case. Traco's engine pulled really cleanly throught both the warm-ups and the competition pulls. The main thing that was a question was the pipe length, which could affect the tune. The Chevy made a nice showing for Traco.
